THE FINAL LOGO
The final logo represents Berlin’s famous Brandenburg Gate, along with the Olympic flame. The bold, solid font contrasts well with the thin lines of the mark, illustrating the boldness of Berlin.
I utilized the flame and a small “platform” as an alternate mark, suitable for usage on social media, clothing items and more.
OLYMPIC SPORTS ICONS
Each Olympics includes a set of icons representing each sport. I carried over the thin line art from the logo into this set of sports icons, along with the platform from the alternate mark. The icon set introduces a guitar pick shape along with the tagline “Become Berlin”, which are utilized in other aspects of the Berlin 2020 Olympics project.
A black and white version of the icon set is also included for printing purposes.
SPECIFIC USAGE TO ENSURE QUALITY
Creating a brand means little without proper usage. A brand guidelines book eliminates the guesswork and ensures that icons, logos, colors, fonts etc are adhered to by printers, advertisers and designers. I designed an attractive and useful set of brand guidelines for the Berlin 2020 Olympics.
THE SPIRIT OF COMPETITION
This series of Olympic advertisements illustrates the competitive nature of the games with a gritty feel. Achievement and camaraderie enter into the visuals as well, building a sense of excitement. Each advertisement features the oval/guitar pick shape from the Olympic icon set, adding to the brand’s unified identity.
WEAR IT HOME
There’s nothing like a souvenir to complete the Olympics experience. The merchandising opportunities are endless, so I created shirts and a hat to illustrate some potential merch designs.
